This course will look at the staggering numbers of errors made in the medical field, and then concentrate on errors made by therapists in the mental health field, including errors in documentation, dual relationships, handling suspected abuse, domestic violence, substance abuse, assessing mental illness, maintaining confidentiality, and assessing and treating suicide. Students will come away with their eyes open and a toolbox of solutions and preventative measures. Learning materials include videos, personal stories, fact sheets, and lists of do’s and don’ts.

The statistics are staggering. The number of people killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars pales in comparison to the number of people killed by preventable medical errors in this country every year. Don’t let even one of your patients become a statistic. Boards governing healthcare providers throughout the nation deserve credit for bringing this shocking information out of the shadows by requiring healthcare providers to be educated, aware, and prepared. The information in this will put you in a position to save lives.

~ Nancy Wolf, LMHC, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA County, FL

“This was a well written, enjoyable course from a different perspective than we usually get on this topic. Refreshing! What was your favorite part of the course: Several things. First, I loved the perspective that lack of competence by professionals who attempt to treat clients with issue for which they do not have expertise was well done. You did not just state it because we all know that, but you drove the point home with your sections on Misdiagnosis, substance abuse, and domestic violence. The second thing I liked what the clarity in the section called Confidentiality and Privilege in Legal Situations. Our attorney se emed to waffle in his direction over the years, but in fact because of the clarity provided in this section, I know have an understanding of where he was coming from although he never articulated it this clearly. Thank you”

~ Joanne Correia-Kent, Broward County, FL

“This is the first medical errors course I have taken that is specific to clinical therapists. It raises awareness about the possibilities for medical errors, with respect to conducting individual, family and group therapies. This course was NOT written by a physical healthcare provider (MD, PA, RN); therefore there was so much more information that is relevant and applicable to mental health providers.”

~ Autumn Quiles, Palm Beach County, FL

And their customer service is very hands on and so helpful. ”

“I really don’t know what could have made it more effective. The course met a need in an interesting, informative and sometimes comical way. I appreciated the inclusion of DV charts and some of the information on substance abuse that will be very useful for families dealing with abusers. Legal jargon is often difficult for lay people. This was presented with that in mind. As counselors, we MUST know these laws and the way with which this course is set up made this less tedious”

“I feel comfortable with the knowledge, education and experience of the trainers. They make the material informative, with humor and easy to absorb. ”
