Licensure Requirements

I’m a Florida registered intern. What courses do I need for initial licensure, and when do I have to take them?

Registered Interns have 5 years to complete their continuing education courses. The earlier these are taken within your internship, the better.

The required courses are:

8 Hour Laws and Rules – Must include a live interactive component. Must be completed prior to taking your test.

2 Hours Domestic Violence – Must be completed at any time during your internship, but no more than six months post-licensure.

3 Hours HIV/AIDs - Must be completed at any time during your internship, but no more than six months post-licensure.

I’m a Florida LMHC, LMFT, or LCSW. What courses do I need to take in order to renew my license?

Licensees must complete 30 CEUs per biennium. A biennium is a fixed 2-year period that begins on February 1st of the odd numbered year, and ends on March 31st of the next odd-numbered year. Licensees do not need CEUs during their first biennium.

The required courses are:

3 Hour Laws and Rules Review – Must be taken every 3rd biennium

2 Hours Domestic Violence - Must be taken every 3rd biennium

2 Hours of Medical Errors – Must be taken by an approved Medical Errors provider

2 Hours of Teletherapy or Ethics & Boundaries – Must be taken in alternating bienniums

The remaining hours can come from any area by Board-Approved providers, but only 6 hours may come from administrative or non-clinical subject areas.
